Our Defense is good as you say, but not good enough to stop opponents everytime especially if your special teams is giving the opponent great field position.

Hopefully, Hagan will improve this weekend -- his regression last game is somewhat shocking given his more consistent performance last year.

Hope I am wrong, but I think you will start to see how much we miss Follett, Williams, and Felder these next few games. I think Eddie Young is good, but I saw him consistently taking poor angles and missing tackles he should have made behind the line of scrimmage. Kendricks has a great motor, but is under-sized for a ILB--if he ever has to cover a legitimate TE who can catch (like this weekend OU's Ed Dickson/Anthony McCoy of SC), he will be exposed. Mohammed was great last year in a supportive role b/c of our great LB's, but he cant do it all. As for Holt, jury is still out on him--he's still learning.

OU can capitalize on and agressive run-stopping Cal D by making short passes (to TE or RB) to get to the second level and force our LB's to make plays.

Not saying the Bears wont win in Eugene this Saturday, but our D will likely not shut out the Ducks and therefore quiet the Autzen crowd, which is a huge advantage.

Go Bears!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2604819636163701857.post-15367430607326447282009-09-24T10:44:12.333-07:002009-09-24T10:44:12.333-07:00First off, thanks all of you for the kind words. ...First off, thanks all of you for the kind words.

To respond the following question above:

Regarding the secondary, I agree there is nothing to be alarmed about but don't you think there were several plays where they bit on short stuff and got burned over the top?

The answer is yes, both vs. EWU and Minn. I wrote after the EWU game that I thought the biting on fakes was about lack of respect, about guys getting greedy and thinking they could make plays. I assumed that would go away against a decent team like Minnesota, but we still saw it a bit.

We saw that a bit vs. MD last year, and then it seemed to go away. The main problem is Hagan, because he always wants to freelance and make plays. And that's typically when he gets caught out of position. The good news is, after his bad MD game last year, he got chewed out for this, and as a result, he really bounced back big. I expect the same this weekend.

Scheme-wise though, Cal's secondary is rarely coached to aggressively bite on the run or the short stuff. Given the experience back there, I'd guess they'll settle down now, listen to the coaches, and stick the game plan now that they've been burned a bit, especially now that conference play is starting.SDnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2604819636163701857.post-77862744705784664262009-09-24T09:41:35.229-07:002009-09-24T09:41:35.229-07:00Great article, nice to see a balanced assessment, ...Great article, nice to see a balanced assessment, rather than the unrealistic expectation that we should score every time we touch the ball on other blog.

Thanks -FRAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2604819636163701857.post-42477816102598890172009-09-24T08:07:44.531-07:002009-09-24T08:07:44.531-07:00You do beautiful work.
